Averaging Window & Lag Calculator

Pick a series, an averaging window, and a publication lag to see the exact index value a clause resolves to, next to the naive latest-print value, and the dollar gap between them.

Resolves it once. The product enforces the convention every cycle, across every clause.

Averaging Window & Lag Calculator, explained

What is an escalation clause averaging window?

The number of months of index values averaged together for the "current" reading, instead of using a single month's print. A 3-month averaging window smooths out a single volatile month; a 1-month window (no averaging) reacts fastest but is noisiest.

Why does publication lag change which value a clause resolves to?

Most indices are published with a delay. The print for a given month arrives weeks or months later. A clause's lag term states how many months back from the review date the measurement window ends, so the review date doesn't wait on data that hasn't been published yet.
